Perast will seduce you with its dreamy baroque palaces mirrored in the calm Bay of Kotor waters, tiny islands just offshore, and the romantic sound of church bells floating across the fjord-like bay.
Perast is a tiny, perfectly preserved Venetian jewel on the shores of the Bay of Kotor in Montenegro. Once a wealthy maritime town of daring captains who sailed under the flag of the Venetian Republic, it boasts seventeen baroque palaces and sixteen churches squeezed along a single waterfront street. In front of the town lie two enchanting islets: Sveti Đorđe with its ancient Benedictine monastery and Gospa od Škrpjela (Our Lady of the Rocks), the only artificial island in the Adriatic, built by hand built by local seamen who laid stones and sunken ships around a rock for centuries after finding a miraculous icon of the Virgin there in 1452. Today, time seems to stand still in Perast: no cars disturb the stone alleys, and every sunset turns the bay into liquid gold, making it one of the most magical and photogenic corners of the entire Adriatic.
